Wallace Street Mural Project

Welcome to Wallace Street Community Park, Caboolture in Queensland, Australia!
This was my first involvement in a community mural project while living and working in Australia.
As part of a group of selected artists we were given the brief (by the local council) to beautify the timber panels of the playground area you can see in the pictures. This park is being used by the local neighbourhood kids, school kids, teenagers, mums and toddlers and various community groups for outdoor events. It's a spacious, modern park with BBQ facilities, cycle paths, small and large playgrounds and heaps of trees. But being a multi-cultural area as well there are also lots of tensions amongst the different cultural groups.
So, our aim was to instigate some collaboration and understanding for each other by creating these individual panels, telling stories....and proudly show them of, or talk about them, while hanging out in this park with new and old friends!
We worked seperately with local primary and secondary schools, indigenous groups and a group of local artists, who als gained experience in facilitating and organising such a project through our mentoring programme.
The general theme was 'Local Nature, Local History, My Story- MyPlace'.
